John Leary
John Leary is the founder and Managing Partner of Dominion Strategies, an award-winning public affairs and strategic communications firm. At Dominion Strategies, John directs complex projects for numerous public affairs clients with diverse issue interests, including aviation, education, energy and the environment, financial services, health care, and transportation, among others. John provides clients with strategic counsel and oversees day-to-day firm management.
Previously, John was a partner at Washington Media Group; he was a Vice President at Goddard Claussen Strategic Advocacy; and, he served as the Director of the Division of Political & Grassroots Membership at the American Medical Association, where he directed fundraising for AMPAC and directed recruitment and retention of all AMA political and grassroots assets.
John has worked as a staff member in the U.S. Senate, in the U.S. House, and in a state legislature, and has held senior positions with Winner/Wagner & Associates, Edison Electric Institute, and State Net. John’s campaign experience includes a stint at the DCCC, as well as work on numerous campaigns for federal, state, and local offices.
John has been a featured speaker on the subject of online constituency development before groups such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Public Affairs Council, and the National Association of Business Political Action Committees (NABPAC), among others. He has won several Pollie Awards for his innovative public affairs campaigns.
John holds a BA in Government and International Studies from the University of South Carolina. He resides with his wife and three sons in his hometown, Alexandria, Virginia. He’s active in his community and currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, he’s on the Board of the Rosemont Citizens Association, and he’s a Wood Badge-trained leader of Alexandria’s oldest Boy Scout Troop.
